Brains over Brawn
Not much changes with the Ridgeline for 2010. It remains a versatile vehicle deserving of another look since being refreshed in 2009.

Pickup by Honda
I doubt Honda developed their popular Ridgeline with the intent of conquering the F150, RAM or Silverado/Sierra crowd; that would be dreaming in techni-colour—or would it?

Perhaps some of the moderates in the full-size pickup truck contingent would be prepared to migrate away from American iron in favour of Japanese ingenuity—and why not?

The Ridgeline may not impart the same muscular ruggedness of the aforementioned stalwarts but it’s no lightweight when it comes to most home and family duties. It brags of a 2,268kg (5,000lb) towing capacity along with a payload capacity of 705kg (1,550lb).

Also, it arrives with Honda’s Variable Torque Management (VTM) four-wheel drive (4WD) system as standard equipment in addition to being pre-wired for trailer towing duties. These are all useful attributes for a vehicle that can also carry five adults in generous comfort while fitting easily into the typical residential garage.

Contributing to the Ridgeline’s ease of garage-ability is its smaller than standard, box size. While not under-sized for the typical household user, the Ridgeline’s inner bed dimensions are 1257mm X 1524mm (49.5in X 60in), and this could be an issue to the home handyman.

Perhaps the Ridgeline’s strongest and most pleasant attribute is its drive-ability.

Smooth V6 power
Most full-size 4WD crew-cab pickup trucks rely upon V8 power to action their mass. The Ridgeline resorts to V6 power to propel its curb-weight of 2,065kg (4,543lb). This is a relatively good thing, which nets a fuel economy rating of 14.1 and 9.8L/100km city and highway driving respectively.

I enjoyed the refined, easy-going performance of the Ridgeline’s 3.5-litre 24-valve SOHC VTEC V6 engine. (Photo: Rob Rothwell/Auto123.com)
