Here’s another ‘small’ segment, but it retains a hardcore fanbase and the few combatants in it have gotten better and better in recent years. KBB’s champ, for the third straight year, is the Toyota Sienna, now standard with a hybrid system and still offering unbeatable interior space and practicality. And this being a Toyota, resale value is very high.

• Comfortable seating
• Smooth, pleasant ride
• AWD
• Hybrid powertrain, meaning great fuel economy, but no range anxiety
• Excellent safety ratings (best-possible IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation)
• Low maintenance costs to be expected
• Resale value
• Exterior styling (yes, even that!)
