Going upscale from the Sport to the SLT ($39,115) adds a 6-way power driver's seat, a roof rack, cloth buckets in place of the split bench, and optional tires, 15-inch wheels, remote audio controls on the steering wheel, and larger power outside mirrors that are also heated.Adding the Plus group to the SLT model leather-faced buckets, a security alarm, better tires, and 15-inch aluminum wheels.
There are several changes to the Jeep TJ for 2000, starting with a new 4-litre engine in the Sport ($23,045) and Sahara ($26,020) trims. The SE model ($19,445) gets the 2.5-litre inline-4 and all models get a 5-speed manual shifter as standard equipment (the one attached to the V6 is new), with a 3-speed automatic optional across the model range.
The 4-litre Power Tech inline-6 debuted on the Grand Cherokee when it was totally revised last year, and it delivers 181 horsepower at 3500 rpm and 222 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm. From the carryover engine comes 120 horsepower at 5400 rpm and 140 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm.Other changes to the TJ line include better standard and optional sound systems, new exterior colors, and new wheels for the Sahara.
The 4-litre engine also shows up in the Cherokee for 2000 as the only engine available, and it's coupled to a new 5-speed manual transmission on the Sport model, which carries and MSRP of $28,195 for the 2-door model and $29,885 for the 4-door.
