The Classic 4-door ($31,290) and the Limited 4-door ($33,575) comes only with a 4-speed automatic, which is also optional on the Sport units.
New for 2000 are such things as chrome accents and 16-inch wheels on the Limited model, new exterior colors and an upgraded stereo for all models, and cast aluminum wheels and better tires for the Classic and Limited trims.
Even though it's only about the year old, the 1999 North American Truck of the Year Award-winning Jeep Grand Cherokee gets several changes for 2000.Optional in the 4WD Laredo ($38,860) and Limited ($45,215) models is the 4.7-litre V-8, which delivers 230 horsepower at 3000 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 3200 rpm. That engine and the base 4-litre V-6 (see above for details) are both powered by a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Other changes for 2000 include new IP heating/air conditioning vents meant to improve air flow, softer optional leather, brighter exterior badges, and three new exterior colors.
Grand Cherokee is offered with three choices of all-wheel-drive systems, including Selec-Trac on the Laredo, Quadra-Trac II on-demand 4WD on Limited (or optional on Laredo) and Quadra-Drive, which is Quadra-Trac II with front and rear progressive Vari-Lok axles and is optional across the line.
