Nickel says BMW's engineers and designers started the X5 with a clean sheet of paper and "took the best concepts from BMW sedans and applied them to the revolutionary Sports Activity Vehicle blueprint. The result is the first vehicle that brings the marque's passion for performance to a vehicle that can take you -- and all your gear -- on any road, any time, any reason."
Though it's shorter than a 5-series, wider than a 7-series, and has more ground clearance than any other BMW, Nickel says, the X5 is nimble vehicle that comes with a lot of utility.
Nickel says the X5 comes with a lot of interesting technical features, including:The BMW Head Protection System (HPS), which is specifically designed to help protect the heads of occupants in side impacts. Nickel says HPS works in conjunction with front door-mounted side air bags and 2-stage (i.e., they deploy at different speeds) front air bags to "provide the optimum in occupant protection."
The latest version of BMW's electronic stability enhancement system, DSC-X, which was designed to "enhance stability and traction on all types of road surfaces."Hill Descent Control engages with the push of a button, Nickel says, and helps ensure a constant speed on steep downhill declines and maintains grip on slippery slopes.During emergency stops, Dynamic Brake Control increases braking pressure and shortens the stopping distance.
