Acura Dn-X - Honda Created the Eco Sports Car. Will Acura Make the Eco Supercar?

The DN-X sports sedan, debuted at the New York International Auto Show on March 28, 2002, is nothing like a traditional sedan. Rather it asks a question that must have been similar to one queried by Mazda designers prior to initiating the forthcoming RX8. That is, why a high-performance sports car can't have the room of a sedan and 4-door convenience. Sure there are dozens of sport sedans around that rival sports car performance but the DN-X doesn't resemble a sedan in the slightest - and after all, image is everything right? Instead it is low and menacing, not unlike outrageous exotics in the caliber of the Lamborghini Murciélago and Saleen S7.

"Don't let the four doors fool you, the DN-X concept is all sports car," said Tom Elliott, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Looking into the future, our designers created the perfect solution for those that want a sports car but also need to carry passengers."

While I have never had the money for a Lamborghini I did set out to by a classic a few years back. I had to factor in taking a significant other and child along for a ride occasionally, hence the need for more than two seats became immediately apparent forcing me to opt for a 2+2. While Maserati (the marque I eventually chose), Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar and a host of less expensive brands have addressed these needs for years it would be unreasonable to classify their cramped rear accommodations as anything near sedan-like. No, I think Acura could definitely be on to something.
