While this is hardly chump change to the average new car buyer, Hyundai delivers a lot of automobile for the money. It's no sport sedan, but its comfortable riding, well mannered chassis is capable of ironing out pavement grooves and absorbing ugly bumps without becoming unsettled. The front suspension is a double wishbone design while the rear gets a multi-link set-up. Nitrogen gas-filled-type shock absorbers are at all four wheels while a sub-frame isolates road noise and vibrations up front. Alloy wheels clad in Michelin all-season P205/60HR-16 tires complement the suspension. Also, its speed sensitive power steering responds well to driver input but isolates feedback in the traditional luxury car manner - either positive or negative depending on personal taste. With that in mind, its level of performance proves adequate enough for all but the most competitive lane swappers.

If you do happen to get cut off by little Mario on his way to the racetrack, the XG's standard ABS equipped brakes with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) work well in panic situations. Other safety features include electronic traction control (ETCS), which applies brakes and throttle when the front driving wheels start spinning, side-impact and front airbags with a passenger presence detection system.

Just because it's biased toward luxury, doesn't mean that the XG neglects performance enthusiasts entirely. If you happened to notice at the beginning of this article, Hyundai has changed its flagship's numeric designation from 300 to 350, due to an all-new 194-hp 3.5-L V6 that continues to drive the front wheels. While it's only up 2-hp from last years 3.0-L V6, the new engine reaches peak horsepower 500 rpm lower in the rev range. What's more, torque is up substantially, from 178 lb-ft to a robust 216, and once again its peak torque is found at 3,500 rpm, rather than 4,000. What does this mean? Smoother power and quicker acceleration.
