Your Ford dealership should be able to run the vehicle's VIN number to check on items that may be outstanding. These may include faulty windshield wiper linkages, a possible leaky seal in the fuel system, unsafe seat-belts or a random engine stall. The latter item is corrected by a simple reprogram of the engine computer.
In all, Escape stacks up as a reasonably reliable and durable machine, though early-on reliability is questionable. If you find a good deal on one, you'll probably wind up with more room and more left-over money than with a comparable import.
