Also, to accommodate loading awkward items the bed height is only 711 mm (28 in) from the ground, even lower than the current two-wheel drive Silverado, courtesy of an independent rear suspension. An extruded aluminum chassis, improving overall rigidity while reducing weight, connects through to a four-wheel steering system similar in execution to the current QS4 option available on full-size GM pickups and SUVs.

The suspension is further enhanced by aluminum control arms and Fox coil-over remote reservoir shocks, reportedly improving both on and off-road performance. The final component to the handling equation is a large diameter wheel and tire package, specifically 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in P285/60R22 BF Goodrich tires. Providing stopping power are massive 381 mm (15.0 in) rotors up front and 375 mm (14.75 in) discs at the rear, with 6-piston and 4-piston calipers respectively.

But today's pickup trucks aren't all about hard working utility, 4x4 prowess or even roadworthy performance. They need to offer near luxury sedan appointments too. On the subject Wayne Manista, Cheyenne interior designer stated, "The interior cab features simplicity of surface and enhanced functionality, and creates a sense of open space." A result of this minimalist thinking is a low, clutter free dash, tidy center console and a wide-open floor area. The rear bench seat is as accommodating as any I've ever seen in a light truck, limousine-like in its legroom.
