Giugiaro added, "When Montezemolo talked to me about creating a whole new, ultra-versatile Maserati, I decided we should do something that really pushed the envelope. We'd do a whole new take on the genuine Maserati GT that would make it perfect for sporty and dynamic drivers, and what we came up with was the GT Wagon concept."

'Dynamic drivers' will be thrilled with Maserati's performance package that includes nothing less than its sensational 390-hp 4.2-L V8, right out of its GT coupe and Spyder models. It's a wonderfully flexible engine that sounds as sweet as it accelerates, especially mated to the sensational Cambiocorsa 6-speed paddle-shift transmission. The Kubang also incorporates a 6-speed plus reverse transmission with mechanical electric-hydraulic control, but it has been designed to be used in fully automatic mode more often than not. The transmission delivers the engines power via 4WD with torque control.

Its weight distribution is an impressive 48 percent front and 52 percent rear, while its center of gravity is a full 100 mm (3.9 in) lower than the average SUV. Both stats should make for impressive handling, especially considering Maserati's experience on the subject.

While sporting the Kubang displays a much more functional side to Maserati's personality. The wagon seats two comfortably up front with three more in what appears like separate bucket-type second row seats. In executive trim only two rear seats are available, separated by a beautifully detailed center console. Maximizing vehicle occupancy the Kubang has been designed to fit two tumble-under rear-facing seats in its cargo area, perfect for taking the kids and their friends to the movies - that is unless your family fills a minivan to capacity on its own.
