''While the third row seating area is often overlooked in SUV design,'' according to Igo, the QX56 ''treats passengers with the same high level of attention as those in the first two rows.''

The third row seats sit higher than the second row to provide a better forward view (this is what is usually known as ''theatre'' seating) and to help facilitate easier conversation with the people ahead of them. Despite the fact that the third seat is raised, Igo promises that it provides ample headroom (though not for everyone), and it comes with side storage bins and cupholders.

There is some storage room behind the third row, but if you've got seven or eight occupants they better not be going away overnight. For extended stays, there's plenty of room for four people and mondo luggage.

QX56's instrument panel is clearly Armada-based, which is a limiting factor in my opinion since that's the weakness of the less expensive model. Better materials lift the standard for the Infiniti, and I'm sure a lot of people will find it suitable.

Standard equipment includes dual-zone electronically controlled climate control, a standard DVD-based navigation system with a 7-inch LCD screen, a Bose audio system with 10 speakers, an AM/FM/6-CD autochanger, and steering wheel mounted controls.

The sound system includes dual media capability, which allows the use of radio and CD at the same time, though headphones must be used to listen to second audio source.

Adjustable brake and accelerator pedals with transmission interlock and memory function are standard, and are part of the Auto Driving Position memory system that includes memory for pedals, outside mirrors and driver's seat.

The QX56's full-length overhead console features individual map lights and ventilation for each passenger, and there's an optional DVD in the back with a flip-down console-mounted monitor, as well as storage compartments for the system's two wireless headphones and remote controller.
