The 2004 Galant remedies my previous criticism of the current car with a thoroughly updated interior. The modern redesign features soft touch plastics, metallic accents and excellent fit and finish, each going a long way to raise interior quality perception, important in this competitive category. The instrument panel is a tidy arrangement of critical gauges, the speedometer at center flanked by a tach on the left and fuel, temperature and gear position indicators on the right.

The center stack protrudes slightly from the dash, making it easier to reach. Mitsubishi's trademark information display sits atop the dash, with large twin air vents just below. The audio and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning controls are just below, seamlessly integrated into a single metallic faceplate. The standard audio system itself sports a single dash-mounted CD changer mated to 140-watts of power. An optional 8-speaker, 270-watt Infinity Titanium system includes a 6-disc in-dash changer, for what should be impressive sound quality.
