Other standard interior features include power windows, door locks and sideview mirrors, auto off headlights and an anti-theft engine immobilizer. Interior options include a one-touch power sunroof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, automatic climate control, an overhead console, a color LCD information screen, cruise control and remote keyless entry.
The new Galant offers an impressive standard powerplant. Its 160-hp 2.4-L 4-cylinder with 157 lb-ft of torque and variable valve timing Mitsubishi calls MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control), puts it near the top of its class for specific output, negating the need for many to spend more on the V6. Of course, the 3.8-L unit's 230-hp and 250 lb-ft of torque will be plenty tempting. It offers the largest displacement of any V6 in its midsize category, with torque exceeding that in the mighty Nissan Altima, the current class leader.

Torque is especially important in automatic transmission equipped cars. A 4-speed automatic is standard in the 2004 Galant, with an upgrade to Mitsubishi's Sportronic sequential-shift automatic available - both incorporate driver adaptive control. The standard automatic, once again, will be disappointing to enthusiast drivers who appreciate the do-it-yourself attributes of a manual transmission, but that being a very small market makes the inclusion of one a questionable business proposition. Also optional will be anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and traction control - 4-wheel discs are standard.
