To be fair the Murciélago's additional 42 lb-ft of torque might produce what it takes for it to keep up with the 437 lb-ft endowed GT over the short haul at least. Continuing past 100 km/h (62 mph) the Carrera GT hits 200 km/h (142 mph) in a stunning 9.9 seconds and eventually peaks at over 300 km/h (186 mph) when its specially developed manual gearbox is in its 6th and final drive ratio - exact top speed specifications are not yet available.
At such speeds aerodynamics play a crucial role. Porsche's engineers shaped the sheetmetal of its new supercar to maximize downforce while trapped air underneath is minimized by funneling it through carbon fiber flow channels and out a rear diffuser.
The Carrera GT's added length makes a difference in downforce as well. Compared to the petit Boxster the 4,610 mm (181.5 in) GT stretches 290 mm (11.4 in) longer. At 1,160 mm (45.7 in) tall it's also 130 mm (5.1 in) lower to the ground than the Boxster, adding a wind cheating missile affect while reducing its center of gravity to improve lateral acceleration. Its 1,920 mm (75.6 in) width, which is 140 mm (5.5 in) wider than Porsche's entry model, no doubt increases track width and thus benefits at-the-limit handling as well. Last but not least the GT incorporates a 2,730 mm (107.5 in) wheelbase, 315 mm (12.4 in) longer than the Boxster. Given the Boxster's already superb driving dynamics the new GT's capabilities are almost unfathomable.
