Conclusion

Overall I very much enjoyed driving around in the New Beetle. The only thing I would have added to this model and it is something I strongly recommend is the wind-blocker. Whether the windows were up or down, a great deal of wind penetrated inside the cabin at as little as 100 km/h. Other than the colour (in this case), and some of the above mentioned quirks, this car is very easy to live with.

It is not very difficult to understand why people continue to buy these cars: The impression of quality and substance abounds from the car and Volkswagens are typically seen as entry-level luxury cars. The catch 22 is if long-term reliability and maintenance costs do not improve, Volkswagen may continue to loose even more ground than what they have lost recently. We will have to wait and see what VW has in store for the foreseeable future.

Good stuff:

-Fit and finish
-Front seats
-Handling

Not so good stuff:

-High purchase price
-Reliability and ownership costs
-Slightly underpowered (with automatic)
