This sketch also appeared in Motor Trend, and is considered a good likeness. That said, there is no telling what Ford has been up to since the Mustang Team member quoted previously chose to share his insider information.

But the stock Mustang would have to come first. Sources say that the new '05 Mustang GT will resemble the '67 GT, including that car's rally lamps set in its horizontal chrome trim bar grille. This will differ from the base car's grille that should look similar to the '68 model. Some say the headlights will be rectangular while other insiders comment on "seeing" round lenses. Either way Ford has plans to pull styling cues from the past in order to spark enthusiasm for the new model, and why not? Can you think of any of FoMoCo's late model Mustangs that stir the emotions like the old ones did and still do? Not likely.

Ford 'accidentally' released photos of the new interior when it showed this picture of Doug Gaffka, Director of Design in Ford Motor Company's Living Legends Studio in Dearborn, standing in front of a Ford GT show car - take a look on the wall behind the Ford Forty-Nine. Just from these shots it's easy to see the retro seat designs, a logical choice considering its exterior styling. While crafted to look old, the new car is expected to improve interior quality dramatically, the current car's Achilles heel next to its antiquated suspension.

But its underpinnings should improve too. Widely anticipated, the new car has been reported to be based on a modified version of the DEW98 platform that also is the basis for the Lincoln LS and Ford Thunderbird. The DEW-lite chassis would be beneficial as both models are impressive performers, due much to their fully-independent suspension systems.
