If that weren't enough (and when is it ever on vehicles like this?), the door sill plates were given an "aluminum appearance," which Hernandez says "complements the chrome appearance of the aircraft-style shifter."

Since it's unlikely that anyone buying a vehicle like this would ever deign to stop for directions, the SUT will come with an optional touch-screen Navigation Radio, which provides 2- and 3-D directions to trendy restaurants, exclusive stores and more mundane places all over the continent, in English, French or Spanish voices. That is to say, "Si, you are perdu."

To be fair, the SUT is not in any way a faux-by-four vehicle. Indeed, if you do want to go off-road, it is the real deal. Hummer started life as the Humvee, after all, and it was meant to take American soldiers across virtually any terrain they encountered.

According to DiGiovanni, "the Hummer DNA is quickly evident in the exterior design of the SUT, embodying square shapes, flat, chiseled surfaces, hard peak lines, and flat glass panes," which combine to give the appearance of more interior space than there really is.

To give the SUT "the appearance of individually component-assembled quality," several of the functional components -- the hood lift handles, the hood latches and fasteners -- were left exposed. According to Hernandez, "Exposed components shout ruggedness and exemplify yeoman-like functionality and workmanship."

Other functional bits meant to underscore the SUT's attitude of ultra-capability include military-like retrieval loops, and access holes for hitch receivers attached to the chassis that can accommodate a winch, which can be plugged in, locked (just like a trailer hitch) and hooked up with an electrical connection, allowing H2 SUT to free vehicles mired in mud or otherwise hopelessly grounded.

As well as giving it the requisite Hummer look, the short overhangs on the SUT also allow for serious approach and departure angles and exceptional ground clearance, all of which reduces the chance that the body will plow into the ground when you're off-road. for minimal impact on trails.

Hernandez also said the 17-inch wheels, heavy-duty independent front suspension and five-link rear suspension would "provide superior handling, carrying and towing capability."
