The M45 behaves like a refined gentleman that will occasionally have and loose a bout with madness when the car travels over a bump. Here is what happens: One moment, the car is smooth, firmly gripping the tarmac and suddenly, driving over a small irregularity will send shockwaves through the car and a loud knocking noise will ensue.
Safety
The M has standard dual front, side and side curtain air bags, active front headrests, ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, traction and stability control and seatbelt pre-tensionners. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has not yet crash tested the Infiniti M. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has rated it a "Best Pick" in its category in frontal impacts and "Good" overall in lateral impacts.
Conclusion
Like most other Nissans and Infinitis, the M45 certainly has the looks to make it a strong contender in its category. I would say that only the E-Class Mercedes has an edge in that department. I failed to really like the M45 because an annoyance like the steering or the poorly sorted out suspension would always creep up on me when I was out on the road. Perhaps the negative ride aspect would not be much of a problem if our Montreal roads were not so disastrous.
With just about $12,000 separating some of the finest automobiles on our roads, the M45 falls a little short of expectations. Our streets and highways, being what they are, disturb what is otherwise a very sophisticated luxury automobile.
Good stuff:
Great engine
Transmission
Looks
Not so good stuff:
Confused ride
Artificial steering feel
Competitors:
Audi A6 4.2L
BMW 545i
Cadillac STS V8
Lexus GS430
Mercedes E-500
