Expect the 100 km/h dash to be completed somewhere in the mid seven second range, with a top speed in the 225 km/h (140 mph) range. Mazda has also improved the car's responsiveness through a lighter flywheel and an electronically controlled throttle. It should be noted these performance figures are estimates; actual data will be released upon the car's regional debut.

While this comprehensive technical overview is sure to impress most automotive zealots, it is only half of the Kinba Ittai philosophy. The other half is how the driver connects to the vehicle, namely the ergonomics, or the way the person sits, the way their arms reach the steering wheel, the way their feet heel-and-toes match up with the pedals, and so on. As such, the dedication to this philosophy has transformed the interior of the MX-5 from a cramped and cluttered ergonomic disaster to a place that's refined, comfortable and moreover, pleasant to look at.

hard, shiny plastic have been replaced by soft-touch materials, with the availability of high-quality leather and cloth for seat trims. Other luxurious touches include the option of two-toned interior trim, piano-key lacquer, and metal trim accents. The MX-5 mimics the RX-8 in its deep, hooded instrument cluster, and its neatly organized 'dome-top' centre console. In addition to the addition of multifunction buttons, the steering wheel also features an adjustable reach and rake feature allowing drivers of all shapes and sizes to get behind the wheel - something that previous models did not take into account.
