awayfrom Birmingham impressed with Porsche's latest sports car, fullyunderstanding why the designers and engineers just had to build a carthat fills a niche so small that most automakers would never even dreamof putting it to market. It's the most profitable car company, on aunit-by-unit basis, in the world, the result of which has allowed it tostow away enough cash to recently buy a majority stake in Volkswagen,no less, the largest automaker in Europe and the fourth largest makerof passenger cars in the world! This deepens the relationship betweenthe two companies, which not too long ago combined forces to bring theCayenne and Touareg SUVs to market, allowing Porsche greater access toVolkswagen's wealth of resources (could a DSG-type sequential manualtransmission be in the pipes?), and providing Volkswagen with theinfluence of a leadership team that has proven its worth.
