Type ''S'' for Speed

On the dry track, the TL Type S behaved well, but all of the tight corners requiring quick acceleration were taken in second gear. (Second gear alone can take the car from a standing start to 100 km/h, a testament to the flexibility of the VTEC engine.) This meant that the engine was building up steam from about 2000 rpm to its peak torque at 5000 rpm. In other words: The front wheels weren't forced to deal with instant, maximum power. Or a slick surface.

While the Acura TL Type S would likely fall behind its all- and rear-wheel drive competitors on track days, out on the open road it offers a highly refined and engaging driving experience. The interior is sleek and comfortable with power seats that are adjustable for height, rake and reach and a steering wheel that tilts and telescopes into place. The Acura also comes standard with numerous luxury features, such as a navigation system with bilingual voice recognition, rearview camera with park assist and XM satellite radio.

Visually, the TL Type S differs from its stock counterpart through a number of enhancements: a black chrome grille, rear spoiler, unique taillights, quad exhaust tailpipes and 10-spoke dark chrome alloy wheels. These features combine to transform the sleek TL into one mean-looking machine. Pricing for the 2007 Acura TL Type S is $46,300 for the manual transmission and $47,600 for the automatic with the paddle shifters.
