It's really, really hard not to like the Cadillac SRX. I have to admit that I've been a huge fan of GM's prestige division ever since it shifted toward more modern-flavored vehicles.

Model designs have become unique while retaining the distinctive core values of Cadillac. At the same time, the brand created cars that reflect the latest trends and deliver high levels of performance -- always in a very upscale and refined package.

The SRX is unmistakably a Cadillac.

To top it all off, GM did not hesitate to discard older models that no longer met the requirements of today's automotive industry. They practically started back from scratch and came up with purposefully designed vehicles.

Unique styling
Cadillac did an outstanding job of redesigning its cars. The SRX, for one, is directly inspired from the Skyhawk fighter jet. The result is nothing short of spectacular, although one could have wished for a more assertive sporty personality.

Inside, much like in every other Caddy, luxury takes center stage. The black treatment as well as the leather-appointed seats and steering wheel (the latter also sports real wood inlays) combine to create a premium look and feel while also allowing a sure grip on the steering wheel.

The controls are aplenty, and so are the accessories throughout the cabin. The audio unit delivers amazing sound quality and offers steering wheel-mounted controls that make it easier to use. Actually, this stereo is so good that I almost preferred listening to music inside the SRX than sitting in front of my expensive home theater system.

The seats are comfortable and feature multiple power adjustments, making it easy to find the perfect driving position. What's more, the steering wheel and pedals are also power-adjustable for enhanced comfort. The icing on the cake comes from the memory system that can remember seating adjustments for two different drivers.

Skyward
My tester was equipped with a fairly expensive option that nevertheless conquered my heart: the Ultraview system. This is no ordinary roof: it comes with a power sliding glass panel over the front- and second-row seats, a power sunshade cover and express open/close with pinchguard. It almost feels like open-air driving. However, you have to be patient as the roof mechanism is exasperatingly slow.

This gigantic sunroof (optional) makes the interior brighter and friendlier.
