Just the Dirt on the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Diesel
A friendly giant?
Material quality is adequate for the price, and it's assembled nicely and with a sense of rugged style. The only complaint noted was of the high seats -- if you're even slightly tall, you'll feel limited in headroom. Drivers of just average vertical proportions will be looking out of the top of the windshield.
It feels secure and solid -- no doubt a real selling point for many. But it can feel big, bouncy and cumbersome at times. It's the price you pay for this sort of all-terrain prowess, after all.

Regardless of the engine, the Grand Cherokee remains an excellent off-road vehicle.

We can get 30 MPG from a large Jeep, but engineers haven't cracked the "mud-slinging capability with luxury-sedan ride" barrier just yet.

Road noise was notably absent from the tires and the chassis is subdued on the highway, too. But if you don't respect the Grand Cherokee's size when cornering, it might startle you. It is possible to make a large and capable machine handle more confidently.

In a nutshell
What the Grand Cherokee diesel offers is a Trail-Rated Jeep product with a Mercedes engine. That means you've got a world leader in off-road powered by a world leader in diesel engine expertise.

And if you've got a cottage, tow frequently, and need a new SUV, you've definitely got some math to do.
