Handling is surprisingly good for a small car with narrow tires. Point it in a desired direction, and punch the throttle; the car will respond, might howl a tire or two, but obeys your command. It just doesn't feel as frisky as the Hatchback.

A functional cabin
The seats, front and back, offer space and comfort. The cloth used is nice, and the driver's seat offers some adjustments. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the steering column could be tilted higher; it could be the center location of the instrument panel and the big unused stretch of dashboard on top that gives me that impression.

The heating and ventilation rotary dials work well, but lack that Toyota solid feel to them. The dials are clear and legible, and the bar-graph fuel level indicator works just as well as a conventional needle.

Among other notable features, there's cupholders and bottle holders spread around the cockpit for the eternally thirsty, the audio system reads MP3 files and sounds good, and trunk space is quite good.

Conclusion
So, it looks good, drives well, uses up very little fuel, and is spacious and comfortable... well, what's the problem, then? There isn't any. It's a car that does its everyday job without complaining, but doesn't seem to have fun doing it. It doesn't stir your soul, because it doesn't really have one.

The as-tested price of this 2007 Yaris sedan is $19,710, including the automatic transmission ($1,000), Aero package ($3,030) and air conditioning ($1,150). That's not quite a bargain anymore, but the car is fully-equipped. The price probably won't bug you that much once you start realizing how little this car will cost you at the pump. The Yaris is an attractive small sedan that will please the left side of the brain better than the right side.
