Proud to be green
Let's face it: with 126 horsepower on tap, forward sprints are underwhelming. In fact, "relaxed takeoffs" would be a more accurate assessment of the vehicle's performance. Still, it's fast enough for city driving.

Likewise, passing maneuvers are far from spectacular, but the Vue is forgiven when you consider its primary purpose.

Revised look
The recent redesign by GM endowed the Saturn Vue with a much friendlier face. The Green Line variant is no exception, sporting the same curvy lines and classier styling that now characterize this compact SUV.

Let's be clear on one thing, just in case you didn't know: the brand completely abandoned the use of polymer panels which, despite preventing rust, did little to enhance the quality feel of the bodywork. Just like the competition, Saturn now relies on steel panels while paying special attention to fit and finish.

The Vue offers a comfortable and fairly quiet ride thanks to a fully-independent suspension.

A similar approach led to the overhaul of the interior. The latter might not be exceptionally crafted or particularly innovative, but the overall layout is thorough and straightforward, with no major flaws in terms of execution. The controls are simple and easy to use; you don't even have to take your eyes off the road to manipulate them.

The OnStar emergency system comes standard -- as it should. So does the stereo with satellite radio and auxiliary input jack. All in all, the cabin proves modern and features all the stuff you need.

Besides, the comfort level is quite reasonable, the seats offering just enough side support (although the back feels a tad neglected) as well as adequate headroom and legroom for everyone, even the rear passengers. The cargo area behind them has been cleverly thought out, although the high loading floor represents a serious handicap.

A gentle beast
As far as small SUVs go, the Saturn Vue enjoys a well-deserved spot in the hearts of Canadians, particularly Quebecers. The turning radius might be a bit wide and the brake pedal a little spongy, but the steering is docile and responsive, reacting quickly to the slightest input from the driver. What's more, the Vue offers a comfortable and fairly quiet ride thanks to a fully-independent suspension and effective soundproofing materials.

The hybrid model is equally pleasant to drive... and a cheap way to move around the city and the countryside.
