Bring suntan, but keep it in a small bottle
Infiniti interiors are impressive for the most part, with their mix of leather, quality plastics and brushed aluminum trimmings. The centre console instrumentation is easy to use, although the angled navigation knob and buttons are a farther reach. And let’s not forget the instrument pod that tilts with the wheel, so everyone can enjoy an ideal driving position.

With the top up, the car’s rump has a capacity of 292 litres, but when the top is folded down, volume decreases to 56 litres.

The shapely seats are very supportive, while rear-seat accommodations are —unsurprisingly — very tight for adults, snug for children.

Truncated trunk
The G37 Convertible’s biggest flaw is the lack of trunk space. With the top up, the car’s rump has a capacity of 292 litres, but when the top is folded down, volume decreases to 56 litres, or if you prefer, 2 cubic feet. And that’s including an underfloor storage hold that can accommodate the fold-up windblocker; add a compact umbrella and a couple of water bottles, and that’s about it.

This makes my daily commute a little complicated, especially when picking up the kids from school; I have to load their bags and lunch boxes on the front passenger seat. It’s also a challenge when I go to or leave work and have to stop for errands; as I always carry a backpack with my trusty laptop in it, I can’t leave it inside the cockpit for fear a thief will break a window and steal it, and if I put it in the trunk, I can’t lower the top.

Some neat features are missing as well. With the 335i, you can lower or raise the top with the keyfob, but you can’t do that with the G37.

Competition
The Infiniti G37S Convertible, manual or automatic, has a base price of $57,400, which is about ten thousand dollars more expensive than its coupe equivalent. A Technology Package that includes navigation and adaptive cruise control adds $3,900 to the price.

The G37’s rivals are:
Audi S5 Cabriolet, 333 hp, $68,300
Audi TTS Roadster, 265 hp, $61,900
BMW 335i Cabriolet, 300 hp, $68,400
Lexus IS 350 C, 306 hp, $60,400
Mercedes-Benz SLK350, 300 hp, $63,500
Porsche Boxster, 255 hp, $59,600

Top up or down, the car keeps its seductive and sensual silhouette.
