Barely 3 months into 2008, the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta is ready for test drives. Priced from $23,475, the wagon is based on the fifth-gen Jetta sedan and features a newly revised five-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic tiptronic transmission.
Despite costing nearly $3,000 less than the last Jetta wagon, the new model features a high level of equipment like air conditioning, cruise control, electric windows, heated mirrors and an 8-speaker MP3 compatible stereo system. Shoppers will also find an Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP), a tilting and telescoping steering wheel, and four-wheel ABS disc brakes. Side and side-curtain airbags are also fitted.
Volkswagen promises tremendous fit and finish, fun-to-drive qualities and a smooth and quiet ride. An optional panoramic sunroof lets in the rays, and the interior boasts a generous maximum of 66.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, or 32.8 cubic feet when they're in use.
