6 - Subaru Hybrid Tourer

This funny-looking car represents Subaru’s most serious attempt yet at developing a gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle. Truth is, the Tourer is an ultra-sporty gullwing model that marks the Japanese automaker’s first steps toward a hybrid variant of its famous boxer engine. Of course, like any self-respecting concept, this one is full of futuristic gadgets, but some of the technologies found under the hood will be carried over to a production model within a couple of years, as confirmed by Subaru executives.

7 - Fisker Karma

The Fisker Karma is no longer a concept. Production will begin next year, with America and some parts of Europe as key markets. This RWD sedan is powered by a pair of 150-kW electric motors which combine to deliver 403 horsepower! The motors are not mounted inside the rear wheels but rather in the middle of the rear axle. With a racy yet refined design on top of that, it’s no wonder that 1,500 units have already been pre-ordered.

8 - Audi e-tron

This car needs no further presentation as virtually everyone has heard about it. Even California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger paid a visit to the Audi booth in hope of sitting behind the wheel. The e-tron uses four in-wheel electric motors to generate a total of 313 horsepower and a ridiculous 3,272 lb-ft of torque. That’s right! Still, it takes nearly five seconds (4.8) to break the 100-km/h barrier and top speed is electronically limited at 200 km/h. Meanwhile, the available range is projected at about 240 kilometres. Despite the magnificent look, anyone speaking French is hoping for a name change ("etron" literally means "turd").
