Audi is readying to expand and enhance their A5 model lineup later this year. The sleek touring coupe will soon offer owners the ability to specify a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 in the high powered S5 variant of the A5, alongside the currently available two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and 3.2-litre V6.

Horsepower ratings between 211 and 354 will be available, though the high-performance S5 coupe will carry forward with Audi's current 4.2-litre V8 engine until the end of the 2010 model. In 2011, it will be replaced by the 333-horsepower supercharged V6.

The main transmission offering across the model range is a six-speed automatic with Tiptronic shift, though a continually variable transmission is available on front-drive models fitted with the four-cylinder engine. An S tronic dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox and a traditional manual transmission are only available to S5 shoppers.

Employing Audi's soft-top technology, the automaker says that the A5 and S5 Cabriolet models will feature an elegant and unified design, plenty of interior space and excellent driving dynamics. The topless A5 and S5 models will replace the current A4 and S4 Cabriolet models, which ride on the last-generation A4 platform.

Audi's latest droptops are visually set apart by new LED lighting and some exclusive interior colors. Further, the S5 gets various aluminum accents and diffuser blades in the front and rear for added character. Of course, the S5's engine will exhale through a set of four exhaust tips.

Ingolstadt's latest gadget is launching on these new vehicles as well. Called 'Audi Drive Select', the system allows for customized engine, suspension and throttle settings to be activated at the driver's discretion. Paired up with the optional new quattroSport rear differential, agility and performance are considerably enhanced. With the quattroSport rear end, power can be shifted dynamically between the rear wheels for better steering response and traction.

Aiding in this goal is the latest generation of quattro all-wheel drive, which is engineered for an asymmetrically rear-biased power split that sends 60 percent of engine power to the rear axle under normal conditions. The latest incarnation of quattro is intended to deliver confident year-round driving dynamics while enhancing vehicle handling and dry-pavement grip.

With power and handling adequately covered off, drivers can take in a set of heated and cooled front seats, standard central display screen, intelligent key system, Bluetooth phone, and an advanced parking system with backup camera. Other notable interior features include a 50/50-split folding rear seat, push-button parking brake, and an available 505-watt sound system by Bang and Olufsen.

Those not willing to wait for the A5 and S5 Cabriolet's North American launch this fall can check the models out at the Geneva Motor Show--which opens on March 5th. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
