Not many people should argue on the Enclave’s classy, elegant looks. It’s all a matter of opinion, of course, but we tend to think that among the Lambda crossovers, the Buick is the best-looking one. It bears a strong family resemblance to the brand most recent products; the stubby nose, the waterfall grille, the muscular flanks and the tasteful amount of chrome make looking at the Enclave an enjoyable moment.
Our CXL AWD tester starts at $51,475, but quickly climbs to $64,345 when you add up freight charges, A/C tax as well as a 1SC Package (adaptive headlights, perforated leather, cooled front seats, power-adjustable steering column, Bose 10-speaker stereo), 20-inch chromed wheels, a navigation and rear-seat DVD package, a tow package, a Cargo Convenience Package, a block heater, a power panoramic sunroof, mud flaps, a remote engine starter and metallic paint.
Competition includes the Nissan Armada, the Toyota Sequoia, the Lexus GX 460, the Ford Expedition King Ranch and the Lincoln Navigator, which are all powered by V8 engines. You could also consider V6-powered rivals like the Acura MDX, the Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI, the BMW X5 xDrive35i and the Mazda CX-9, although they’re sportier than the Buick.
The Enclave is a stylish and competent crossover, with room to spare and a high level of creature comforts. It could benefit from a better dashboard finish, and its fuel consumption isn’t that far from what a V8 would provide, but other than that, this big Buick is one of the best crossovers GM has to offer, even if you call it an SUV.
