People in the back can get in and out easily as the back doors open nice and wide, and there is a tonne of leg room and even a decent amount of headroom in the back. The driver’s seat is slightly raised to give the people in the back a bit more space for their feet and it makes a world of difference.
One feature that I really appreciate is the fold down centre armrest in the second row. It is wonderful to have a comfortable place for my friends to sit; an armrest makes a big difference in comfort! And, it is great that we all had a place to keep our coffees.
The Avenger R/T has a 3.5litre V6 engine with 235horsepower and 232pound feet of torque. It’s enough power to keep it pretty close with the Accord and the Fusion.
The base model SE is equipped with a 2.4litre 4 cylinder engine with 173horsepower and a 4-speed automatic. I didn’t get a chance to drive the 4-cylinder, but have read from other journalists that it is adequate and noisier than the V6. I always like a bit more power and really found this V6 great to drive.
This R/T engine is matched with a 6-speed automatic and the shifts are very smooth. Driving in manual shift mode is also an option and I enjoyed getting a bit more grunt while driving this way. Let the revs get a bit higher and the engine has a decent sound to it.
In the city, I found the rack and pinion power assisted steering to be responsive. The nose feels a bit long and the rear window is a bit narrow so parallel parking was tough. I like having the spoiler on the trunk, as it makes it easier to tell where the back end is when I am looking through my rear view mirror.
On the highway, I really appreciate the 6-speed automatic. The extra gears make this Avenger very comfortable to drive at higher speeds. I noticed a bit more noise inside the car when compared to the Altima and Accord but nothing unbearable.
