Presented today is Infiniti's first production gas-electric vehicle, the M35 Hybrid. A highly significant vehicle for Nissan's luxury division, the M35 Hybrid was six years in development and represents the first vehicle using the Nissan-developed parallel hybrid powertrain.

The system is comprised of a 3.5-litre gas engine/electric motor combination with two clutches, one (wet) between the two engines and the other (dry) on the driveshaft behind the automatic transmission. The twin clutches disconnect the gasoline engine from the transmission, shutting it off when running in electric mode.

The M Hybrid also features Infiniti's Audible Pedestrian Warning System, which consists of a bumper-mounted speaker that emits high- and low-pitch sounds to warn pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching.

The M35 Hybrid offers all the amenities expected in the luxury segment, plus the environmentally-friendly demeanour expected from today's well-heeled buyer. Although the M35 Hybrid was initially unveiled at the Geneva show, the LA auto show marks its official debut. The Japanese version, called the Nissan Fuga Hybrid, debuted in October.
