In other news, the next-generation model is just as roomy and accessible as the previous one. This applies not only to the passenger quarters but also the cargo area, although the loading floor may prove a bit high for most people.
Sophisticated new powertrain
Under the all-new cabin lies an all-new powertrain that consists in a 375-horsepower, 5.0-litre V8 engine (with torque to spare), a near-flawless, 6-speed automatic transmission (upshifts are a tad slow at times) and Land Rover’s permanent four-wheel drive system. And did I tell you about Terrain Response? Suffice to add that the LR4 is an energetic performer that beautifully adjusts to road conditions to get you exactly where you want to go no matter what.
Thusly set up and geared, the big Land Rover can tackle any terrain and obstacle, any day of the week. Yet, comfort is never compromised thanks to a four-corner adjustable air suspension. Only the steering fails to offer the kind of responsiveness most drivers look for. Still, the LR4 proves more agile than its forerunner, delivering surprising handling in spite of its substantial girth.
My alter ego?
While some bad mouths will tell you that the portly Land Rover is my automotive equivalent, you should know that I personally hold the British brand in the highest regard when it comes to luxury and off-road performance. Now, the LR4/Discovery is even more capable and stylish. Time will tell if the historically-poor reliability of Land Rover has been improved, too.
