Finally, trunk capacity compares favourably to most rivals. Unfortunately, just like the Chevrolet Malibu, the opening is short and narrow. Loading big, heavy items is made even more difficult by the tall lip.
Where's the Zoom-Zoom?
In addition to this irritant, it must be said that Mazda's ''Zoom-Zoom'' philosophy no longer seems to apply to the 6, at least when the 170-horsepower four-banger sits under the hood. Granted, the similarly-powered Malibu, Fusion and Altima take roughly the same time (9.3 seconds) to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, but then you have cars like the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata whose naturally-aspirated engine allows 0-100 accelerations in a mere 7.8 seconds.
In our 2010 Midsize Sedan Comparative Road Test, the Mazda6 disappointed with a lack of structural rigidity. Highways pose no problem (thank God!), but tight winding roads in the backcountry are another story. Maybe Father Time has taken its toll on this Japanese four-door and stolen its mojo... er, ''Zoom-Zoom.''
