That's right, you guessed it. If you like Volkswagens and/or like to read up on them, you know that under that slopping sensual bonnet is VW's family turbocharged 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. Always purposeful, always energetic and ever so frugal, this engine's 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque are a constant source of pleasure. Mated to the 6-speed DSG gearbox complete with wheel-mounted paddles, the CC lacks for nothing in real-world performance.

Certainly, should you want more, Volkswagen is happy to oblige by offering a 3.6L V6 model good for 280 hp with AWD. With a $45,875 price tag, it's about $12,800 more than the base CC but well worth it if you want more go to go with the show as it also adds VW's 4MOTION AWD system.

Admittedly, the CC could benefit from the Audi-tweaked 2.0T which puts out 11 more hp and 51 extra lb of torque. Given the nature of the CC as an executive, high-stylin' car, logic should prevail.

Road sleek
The CC is so aerodynamic that it seemingly cuts through the atmosphere. At one point, I realized just how quiet it was in the cabin when I had turned down the radio to take a call (on my bluetooth device) and forgot to increase the volume afterwards. This blends masterfully well with the incredibly supportive and comfortable seats that hold the occupant firmly in place as the CC carves through city streets and highways alike.

As it is a Volkswagen, its road manners are polite, competent and ever so rewarding. Able to juggle spirited and relaxed driving at the same time, the car's suspension works in collusion with the electromechanical steering with speed-dependent assistance. Light and easy at slow speeds, weight and resistance climb as speed piles on.

In that department, the combination of DSG and 2.0T empowers the driver to be frugal and/or aggressive as his or her heart desires. My returned fuel economy average with a few ticks below 10L per 100 km but a more sensible driver could easily see their number hover around the 9L mark.
