For those who tow with a fifth wheel, note that the new Super Duty is available with a factory-installed and warranted unit, with its “gooseneck substructure” attached directly to the frame.

Another new option is the integrated trailer brake controller.

The Trailer Sway Control System (TSC), which debuted on the new F-150, is now also available on Super Duty.

Power take off

To manage the torque of the new diesel engine, Ford developed the new 6R140 TorqShift 6-speed transmission. That diesel powertrain can be optioned with a Line Drive PTO (Power Take Off) — a Super Duty first. The PTO can run auxiliary equipment, like snowplows, tow truck lifts, and cement mixers.

Enjoy the ride
No one is going to confuse the ride of a heavy duty pickup to that of a luxury car, but Ford says Super Duty rides easier now, thanks to adjusted spring rates, and better internal valving in all the shock absorbers. The steering gear is also new.

New hood

The only exterior change is the hood, which now features a bolder grille design, and an inverted power dome, to make you envision the power beneath it.

Productivity enhancements

Continuing the trend to making work trucks also “offices on wheels,” the 2011 Super Duty is available to be outfitted with pieces from Ford’s new “Work Solution” accessory line.

Also optional is a new 4.2-inch LCD Productivity Screen; a five-way button on the steering wheel allows customers to navigate through various menu options, like fuel economy and towing set ups.
