Other mechanical highlights include a four-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, electric-assist power steering and 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/55VR16 tires. Seventeen-inch wheels with 205/45VR17 tires will also be available.
On the outside, the CR-Z sports a modern, wedge shape that’s pleasing to the eye, but the car’s unusual proportions and long front overhang sparked a conversation or two around the box of Timbits at the office. In addition, only three exterior colours will be available, which really limits one’s willingness for exclusivity.
Compared with the last 1988-1991 CRX, the CR-Z is obviously longer, wider, higher and rides on a longer wheelbase, while the split-section tinted backlight several past Hondas, such as the CRX, both generations of the Insight and the FCX Clarity. The CR-Z is about as long and wide as a Mazda MX-5. Cargo space is rated at up to 711 litres, or about twice the size of a Civic sedan’s trunk.
Inside, the instrument panel’s tachometer includes an illuminated inner ring that glows red when the Sport mode is selected. While in Econ mode, the inner ring varies from blue to green, the latter indicating that you’re an eco-driving champ.
The standard equipment list includes: stability control, automatic climate control, power windows, keyless entry, cruise control, a 7-speaker, 360-watt sound system with USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather-wrapped wheel and xenon headlights.
