A little too affordable

I know that many readers think I’m a speed freak, both on the track and the road, and thus incapable of appreciating a normal drive. To those readers, let me point out that for the daily grind, I drive a minivan that lives up to my expectations beautifully. But in the case of the G25, I couldn’t help but be disappointed.

The engine lacks gumption, and if you push it a little too hard it seems to wheeze like an asthma patient that’s just tackled a three-story staircase. And I’m not talking about full-speed joy rides either, but just safely merging onto the highway or passing without a hitch.

You have to admit that buyers opting for an Infiniti G are expecting a little more responsiveness from such a highly praised car.

A pleasant drive

The feeble engine is just one aspect though, and one you can almost forget about considering the precise and entertaining steering and the fairly efficient transmission (exclusively automatic, by the way). But again, neither of these components is in the least bit sporty.

Thumbs up for the comfortable suspension, the equipment worthy of a luxury car and the drive that is nevertheless more inspiring than that of Lexus models of the same calibre. And throw in a quick, transparent all-wheel drive, and you get a highly efficient vehicle.

However, the overall package leaves something to be desired. In fact, you wonder how the G25 will find its niche. With such a small price advantage and chronically underwhelming engine, the G25 is definitely not as attractive as its G37 siblings.

Thankfully, it has Infiniti’s renowned style and reliability going for it.
