Far from a compromise
The seats are also a key ingredient and those of the G37x prove supportive, comfortable and pretty attractive. Yes, I said it – even the seat cushions must appeal to the eye. The rear seats are somewhat tight, but you can expect the same thing in the other three models. As for the fairly spacious trunk, it will swallow a pair of golf bags – without the carts, mind you. Once again, this is nothing new for compact car buyers.

As I mentioned earlier, the G37 is quite potent and its award-winning V6 obviously deserves bragging rights. Standard on all trim levels except the G37 M6 Sport, Infiniti's excellent 7-speed automatic transmission beautifully sends power to the driving wheels. And yes, the G37x Sport is wickedly fast. You can count on it.

You've probably guessed that ''x'' refers to the brand's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system. The latter fares remarkably well in most conditions, and with a strong rear-wheel bias, smile-inducing power slides are always tempting during winter. Gear shifts remain seamless and you can clearly feel the engine brake at work when the box downshifts in addition to the artificial heel-and-toe (throttle blip) that smoothes out power delivery. Nice.

The powertrain is instrumental to the G's driving dynamics yet it lets the pilot enjoy and gain confidence from the competent unibody structure and components at all times. Moreover, the agility and sportiness displayed by the car don't seem to affect ride quality and interior quietness.

Despite the engine becoming quite audible at full throttle, the sound effects prove brawnier and more intoxicating than Mercedes' V6, the only other engine of this foursome that's not force-fed.
