The secret weapon
As you progress through life, owning that sleek and sexy sports car starts to become more and more of a financial reality. That is, until your significant other utters three simple words:

“Honey, I’m late”.

That innocent little sentence is a doozy, and it effectively puts the kibosh on any plans uniting with that hot two-seater you and your testosterone have been lusting after.

The Infiniti G37 sedan comes from the same gene pool as the 370Z. You can get it with a manual transmission. It’s rear-wheel drive. It handles. Heck, it’s even got the same engine. (Photo: Chris Koski/Auto123.com)

One such machine is the Nissan 370Z. It’s a twitchy missile of a coupe that’s as wild, hardcore and sexy as they come. But like that old girlfriend, it’s probably not the one you want to bring home. For many an aspiring family man, thoughts of a car like this one get tossed to the curb like that old beer-pong table and keg fridge. And that old girlfriend.

Thankfully, there’s an alternative. Well, sort of.

The Z’s sophisticated and educated cousin?
The Infiniti G37 sedan comes from the same gene pool as the 370Z. You can get it with a manual transmission. It’s rear-wheel drive. It handles. Heck, it’s even got the same engine.

But, unlike Nissan’s Z, Infiniti’s G is smart and sophisticated and modest. It doesn’t whisper constantly into your ear about drifting through intersections or ripping off second-gear donuts in the Wal-Mart parking lot after close. The successful family man separates himself from such bad influences.

So, the G37. On board this affordable posh rocket, there’s room for mom, dad and two child seats. Plenty of space for sippy-cups, too. The trunk is even big enough for a baby stroller, some toys and a few cases of Pampers—albeit after a little finagling.

Airbags surround the cabin, and everything is calm, relaxing and comfortable, so you can put your screaming offspring to sleep with a late-night cruise. The tested G37xS even has all-wheel drive for extra year-round traction, as well as a sport package with limited-slip differential, suspension, brake and steering upgrades to help whisk you and yours out of harm’s way in a jiff.

Bluetooth, xenon lighting, radar-guided cruise control and voice-commanded navigation enhance safety even further.

It’s all very sensible, safe and proper – just what the responsible, aspiring family man needs.
