Surround is the sound
Music lovers will appreciate the surround sound stereo now gracing the fortwo passion’s options list. Equipped with an impressive array of loudspeakers and a digital amplifier, the stereo system delivers surprisingly high-quality sound.

For the basic model, however, the audio system is a humbler affair, with its USB and auxiliary ports and two adequate loudspeakers. They didn’t even throw in a CD player. Hmph.

Trunk affairs
Trunk-side, you can now lower the sedan’s rear panel one-handed. An improvement that isn’t shared by the cabrio, though.

On the other hand, at the end of said trunk there is now a long, flexible panel stretching the entire width of the cargo area. It simply keeps items from slipping under the seats. Pretty smart!

Nothing new under the hood
Mechanically, nothing’s changed. The small, naturally aspirated, gas-powered, three-cylinder engine still produces 71 hp. The 1.0-litre mill still takes a little over 13 seconds to get the car from 0 to 100 km/h. Expect your patience to be taxed on straightaways. However, the engine is perfectly suited for running about in town. Indeed, it pollutes less than its predecessors, emitting les CO2.

Note that the fortwo Brabus in the 2011 catalogue has nothing in common with its potent European cousin. The special edition shares its powertrain with the other two Canadian fortwos. It features 15- and 17-inch Brabus wheels, a lowered suspension, a special set of side skirts and aprons, dual central exhaust pipes, sport pedals and a gas flap adorned with the brand’s sigil. It’s about style, in the end.

And to think that European motorists enjoy a three-cylinder, 102-hp, turbo Brabus. A true little sports car that catapults you from 0 to 100 km/h in under 9 seconds en route to top speeds of 160 km/h.
