The 2011 edition of the Grand Vitara has arrived in dealerships with a simplified line-up and one powertrain choice.

The popular 2.5-litre 4-cylinder, which has been available for the last 2 years, now becomes the only available engine. It develops 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and it connected to a 4-speed automatic transmission. A four-wheel drive system with low range is also standard, a rare feature in the compact SUV segment. The Grand Vitara’s towing capacity is 3,000 pounds or 1,360 kilograms.

Three trim levels are offered. The JX includes 17-inch alloy wheels, power heated mirrors, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a height-adjustable driver’ seat, a sliding front center armrest, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback, an intelligent key system, a CD player with 6 speakers, a leather-wrapped wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control and power windows.

The JLX version adds fog lamps, heated front seats, a sound system subwoofer and a power glass sunroof. As for the JLX-L trim, it benefits from all the equipment listed above as well as leather upholstery.

Suzuki equips each Grand Vitara with a host of safety equipment, including anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability program with traction control, an engine immobilizer as well as six airbags.

In the compact SUV category, the Grand Vitara competes with the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4, the Mitsubishi Outlander, the Ford Escape, the Mazda Tribute, the Chevrolet Equinox, the GMC Terrain, the Nissan Rogue and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The 2011 Grand Vitara JX is priced from $27,995 before tax, freight and delivery, while the JLX and JLX-L are listed at $29,495 and $30,495, respectively.
