In addition to the new 4-cylinder eAssist powertrain, which we’ll be reviewing next week, the 2012 LaCrosse sedan will also benefit from improvements to its optional 3.6-litre V6.
The direct-injected engine will receive several enhancements; a new cylinder head design with a revised intake port improve airflow to the combustion chambers, while larger-diameter intake valves and longer-duration intake camshafts collaborate for the rise in engine power. A new fuel pump and an isolated fuel rail reduce noise, and lightweight components reduce the engine’s weight by 20.5 pounds.
The 3.6L unit will produce 303 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque, up 23 ponies and 5 pound-feet from the 2011 variant. Fuel economy ratings should remain unchanged in both front-drive and all-wheel drive versions of the V6-powered LaCrosse.
The 2012 Buick LaCrosse will hit dealerships later this summer.
