What’s New
The 2013 Silverado gets grade braking on all the six-speed automatics. In addition there are some new colors. When a perennial top seller like the Silverado undergoes such minor change, get ready for an “all new model” to put in an appearance part way through the calendar year.

Towing

Since the Silverado as a whole has been left alone, there are no changes to its ability to haul or tow. Satbilitrak with trailer sway control and hill start assist forms the core of the Silverado trailer towing package. Also included is a tow haul mode for automatic transmissions as well as the powertrain grade braking which works in or out of tow/haul mode. An optional rear view camera makes hook up a bit easier. Maximum towing package is for 4,853 kg. (10,700 lb.).

Box length (and thus cargo capacity) will depend on which of three cab configurations are ordered. All box lengths can accommodate a fifth wheel hitch. To fit a goose neck hitch, buyers will have to consult their truck specialist at the dealer ship.

Interior
Interior trim will depend a bit on what trim level you start with. The WT and LT trim levels feature the “pure pickup” style interior while the LTZ is a luxury inspired interior. Some items such as Blue Tooth® connectivity are standard on all trim levels while others such as satellite radio are optional on the lower trim levels and standard on the rest.

Power Train
Five distinct engines in four displacements are available. The entry level engine is 4.3 litre V6. A small 4.8 liter V8 is the first optional engine. Next up is a duo of 5.3 liter V8s that have similar power outputs, but one is an iron block and the other is an Aluminum block. Both use Aluminum heads. At the top of the heap is a 6.2 liter V8. All engines are E85 capable.

A four-speed automatic is used on the entry level units while all others get a six-speed automatic. No manual transmission is available.

Four-wheel drive is an option that is available with most of the engine/transmission combinations offered.

In Short
Desirable equipment can be ordered separately in most cases or as part of a trim package. This makes the Silverado a modern throwback to the time when every item available was listed on the order sheet. Silverado becomes as functional and capable as you order it to be.

Fuel Economy
Energuide Canada’s fuel economy guide rates the most economical combination (4.3 V6) at 14.1l/100 km/10 l/100 km. while the thirstiest engine (6.2 V8) uses 24.3 l/100 km/15.3 l/100 km.
