What’s New?
Sierra is up for a total refresh in the 2014 model year so the 2013 is pretty much a carry-over model. On the Sierra, GMC has added powertrain grade braking in normal and tow/haul mode. Grade braking is now standard and allows the transmission to downshift while going down hills. Two new exterior colors have been added as well.

Towing

Sierra is billed as a work truck, but the payload capacity of 838 kg (1,937 lb) and the maximum towing capacity of 4,853 kg (10,700 lb) is the same as the luxury oriented Silverado. Trailer towing comfort revolves around Stabilitrak with trailer sway control and the new grade barking system in the transmission.

Interior
As a “professional grade” work truck, Sierra’s switches and controls are a bit larger and easier to use with gloves on than many of its competitors. Bucket seats with a center console or a split bench seat with fold down arm rest form the seats of choice. In either case, power outlets and space for “office stuff” such as charge cords, phones, computers or e-readers is plentiful. Interior finish depends on the trim level chosen and starts with cloth. At the top is sumptuous feeling leather covered interior.

Power Train

Sierra makes use of five engines that have four different displacements. Entry level is a 4.3 litre V6 with a four-speed automatic and this is the only powertrain that can be ordered in 2WD or 4WD. Next on the option sheet is a 4.8 liter V8 with a six-speed automatic. Up next are two 5.3 liter V8s that have similar characteristics, but one uses a cast iron block with aluminum heads and the other one uses an aluminum block as well as aluminum heads. Both transmissions come with a six-speed automatic. The largest displacement engine available is a 6.2 liter V8, again hooked up to a six-speed automatic. All engines are compatible with E85, regular unleaded or any combination of the two.
