All-new Corvette ready for launch

Price Range: $TBD

Description: After being unveiled to the drooling masses at this winter’s auto-show circuit, the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray is readying for its on-sale launch, and it’s packing a higher level of technology, performance and style than ever before.

A new, flowing body features more detail and sculpting than the outgoing model, and was penned to turn heads and command attention while maintaining the Corvette’s signature visual DNA. The body conceals race-proven aerodynamic implements intended to turn in improved stability and capability for track driving, too.

This two-seat, V8-powered, rear-drive coupe is coming soon and it’s ready to take on the world’s best.

Drivetrain: Corvette’s new 6.2L V8 engine will pack an estimated 450 horsepower more efficiently than ever thanks to advanced new technologies and engine design efforts.

Key among them? Direct Injection fuel delivery technology for optimal extraction of energy from every molecule of fuel. Variable Valve Timing for optimized engine breathing and a new combustion system that features supercomputer-designed valve ports and pistons. Millions of equivalent hours of supercomputer analysis and tweaking have allowed engineers to create one of the most advanced V8 powerplants on the road today.
Automatic or manual transmissions will be offered.

Consider it if: you’re after relatively affordable access to world-class performance, styling and handling. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will be, arguably, the most striking and lusted-after car anywhere near its price range. High-tech features designed to enhance the overall driving experience abound.

Skip it if: you need a rear seat.

Other Notes: The all-new cabin created by designers shows off the latest in Chevrolet design and features carbon-fibre, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather surfaces, as well as dual 8” display screens. Look for features like a Head Up Display (HUD) and navigation, as well as premium audio systems.

A Z51 Performance Package for motorsport enthusiasts will be available to fit an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system and integral brake, differential and transmission cooling for added durability and capability during track use. The package also includes an aerodynamic upgrade for further increased high-speed stability.

Finally, a five-position drive-mode selector allows drivers to “dial” the Stingray into a variety of modes that suit their current needs or intentions. An active exhaust system, when acted upon by the drive-mode selector, dials up sound effects under heavy throttle. A reconfigurable instrument cluster lets drivers select various pre-set data modes, or set up their own custom instrumentation readout.

Don’t Miss: the 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching. This proper manual transmission can anticipate the next gear selection and electronically “blip” the throttle ahead of a gear-down, matching engine speed for seamless gear changes.

Active Fuel Management (AFM) deactivates half of the engine’s cylinders under light-footed driving to help save fuel.

Available third-generation Magnetic Ride Control technology features a new twin-wire/dual-coil damper system that reacts 40% faster than the old system, enabling improved ride comfort and body control.
