Pro: As a mid-sized Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV), the Traverse puts the extra space to good use and can be ordered in many different combinations so that nearly everyone can build the vehicle they want.

Con: Too many vehicle options to choose from could lead buyers to simpler models on offer from other manufacturers.

Price: Basic MSRP prices for the Traverse:
• FWD: LS $33,295, 1 LT; $36,295, 2 LT; $40,345, LTZ; $46,545
• AWD: LS $36,295, 1 LT; $39,295, 2 LT; $43,345, LTZ; $49,545

Fuel Economy (city/highway/combined in l/100 km):
• FWD: 12.7/8.4/10.8
• AWD: 13.0/8.6/11.0

Improvements and Changes: Now standard in the back of the centre console are dual, charge only, USB ports for use by those in the second row of seats.

On the LTZ Chevrolet has added forward collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning system and a crash avoidance system. These features are optional on the LT.

Exterior Changes: Chevrolet has left the exterior alone, instead concentrating on exterior accessories such as chrome door handles that help differentiate the four trim levels.

Interior Changes: Traverse provides a comfortable ride for up to eight passengers. For 2014 the only difference shown is the dual, charge only, USB ports in the back of the center console. Consumers still have a choice between a pair of bucket seats or a bench seat for the second row with the third row is a 50/50 folding seat.

Cargo/towing/payload: Maximum towing capacity is rated at 2,358 kg (5,200 lbs) and requires the trailer-towing package. Maximum cargo volume is 691 liters behind the third row seat.

Powertrain: The revised 3.6L, DOHC, 24 valve, direct injected, V6 now features a one piece cylinder head with the exhaust manifold to reduce weight and is the only engine used in the Traverse. Power output is 281 horsepower with a single exhaust and 288 with a dual exhaust. Peak torque for the single exhaust is 266 ft.lb. while the dual exhaust produces 270 lb.ft.

A six-speed automatic with an integral transfer case (for the AWD system option) has sixth gear as an overdrive. The six-speed automatic is the only transmission offered on the Traverse.

Safety: In addition to the front, front seat mounted side impact and full-length side curtain/roll over protection airbags; Traverse utilizes a center console airbag to help protect offside occupants from a side impact.

Four wheel disc brakes with ABS, traction control, stability control, hill start control and roll mitigation are standard as is a back-up camera. Seat belt pretensioners, LATCH system of anchoring child seats and tire pressure monitoring system are standard as well. On LTZ trim models; a Forward Collision Alert Monitor and a land Departure Warning System are included. The 2 LT has these two items as options.

Comparables: Mazda CX-9, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe XL, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sorento, Ford Explorer and Flex.
