2015 Fiat 500L Preview

Pros: The Fiat 500 is attractive for its quirky style and fun-to-drive nature, all that was missing was a bit of practicality and the 500L answers that need in spades.

Cons: The added doors and trunk space give the 500L a bloated, allergic-reaction look, and the drive is almost bus-like and not at all like the 500 hatch.

2015 Fiat 500L Price and Fuel Economy: Just like the 500 hatchback, the 2015 Fiat 500L has a lineup of funky models to choose from, each offering personality traits and different amenities.

  • 2015 Fiat 500L Pop $20,495
  • 2015 Fiat 500L Sport $23,495
  • 2015 Fiat 500L Trekking $24,995
  • 2015 Fiat 500L Lounge $26,495

The same engine is found in each 500L, and the combined fuel rating of that engine is approximately 8.7L/100km (with the automatic transmission).

Powertrain: Speaking of a single engine, that particular mill is a 1.4L MultiAir turbocharged unit that produces 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. There are now three transmission choices: a 6-speed manual, a Euro Twin Clutch 6-speed automatic (available only on the Pop model), and a new AISIN 6-speed automatic. Power is sent to the front wheels only.

Changes and Improvements: For 2015, the only change and improvement made to the Fiat 500L is the introduction of the brand new AISIN 6-speed automatic. This unit, manufactured in Japan, is ideal for compact utility vehicles and the technology can also be found in the Dodge and RAM lineup. It offers more efficient and sharper gear changes than a standard automatic transmission, but isn’t as sporty as the Euro Twin Clutch.

Cargo Capacity: The 2015 Fiat 500L offers seating for five and approximately 603 litres of cargo space in the trunk (with the rear seats in place).

Safety: The 2015 Fiat 500L comes equipped with all manner of safety equipment and airbags, including hill start assist, LATCH child seat anchor system, and available Park-Sense Rear Park Assist, and ParkView Rear Back-up Camera.
