Still a winner

Pros: It’s still very much the Honda Accord we fell in love with a few short years ago, the one that was awarded our 2013 Auto123.com Midsize Car of the Year. Since then, our appreciation of the Accord has only grown.

Cons: That’s despite heavy competition (like the fantastic Mazda6, which dethroned the Honda in our 2014 Awards as Midsize Car of the Year). And new versions of the Chrysler 200 and Subaru Legacy only heat up the competition more and mean Honda’s going to have to ramp it up for the next generation of Accord to keep it in on of the segment’s top three spots.

2015 Honda Accord Price and Fuel Economy: For 2015, Honda is offering six versions of their Accord Sedan model. Below you’ll find each trim along with its price (all base MSRP) and fuel efficiency numbers:

  • Honda Accord Sedan LX, $25,923; 7.8L/100km (combined); CVT.
  • Honda Accord SPORT, $28,023; 8.0L/100km (combined); CVT.
  • Honda Accord EX-L, $31,423; 7.8L/100km (combined); CVT.
  • Honda Accord TOURING, $32,723; 7.8L/100km (combined); CVT.
  • Honda Accord EX-L V6, $34,923; 9.1L/100km (combined); 6-speed automatic.
  • Honda Accord TOURING V6, $37,423; 9.1L/100km (combined); 6-speed automatic.

Changes and Improvements: The ninth generation 2014MY Honda Accord features no major changes for 2015.

Powertrain: There are two engines available in the Honda Accord Sedan; a 2.4L inline 4-cylinder that produces 185 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque (standard in the LX, EX, EX-L). Of note, the same 2.4L 4-cyl in the SPORT model is tweaked for a few more horses and pushes out 189 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque (hence the SPORT nameplate).  Then there’s the 3.5L i-VTEC V6 engine in the EX-L V6 and TOURING V6 that is good for 278 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque.

A 6-speed manual transmission can be equipped on the LX, SPORT and TOURING models, and a 6-speed automatic transmission is the only option for the two V6 models. A CVT is also available on the LX, SPORT and TOURING models and is the only transmission available on the EX-L.

Cargo Capacity: The LX and Sport are the only two with larger trunk space at 447L. Otherwise, the other Honda Accord models offer up 439L of space in the rear for all your gear.

Safety: All 2015 Honda Accord models are equipped with all manner of airbags, as well as active safety features like ABS, Brake Assist, EBD, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, Vehicle Stability Assist, etc.

Comparing the 2015 Honda Accord: Ford Fusion, Mazda6, Chevy Malibu, Chrysler 200, Subaru Legacy.
