The Nissan Micra Cup begins its third season today at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, east of Toronto, as part of Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend.

Steadily growing in popularity, this still-young car-racing series will feature two events in Ontario and four in Quebec, with each event comprising two races, for a total of 12 over the course of the 2017 season.

It is set to be a season-long battle for supremacy between 2015 and 2016 champions Olivier Bédard and Xavier Coupal, as well as Stéfan Rzadzinski, Kevin King, Stéfan Gauthier, Valérie Limoges and several others. Fans will be keying as well on young Australian driver Keishi Ayukai. 2017 will also mark the debut of the Senior category, reserved for drivers 40 years of age and up.

Following free practice sessions Thursday and Friday morning, drivers will take part in a single qualifying session on Friday between 3:40 pm and 4:10 pm. Start time for the first race of the 2017 season is 5:05 pm on Saturday, with the second race following on Sunday. Fans will be able to tune in to the latter via Facebook Live on either a desktop or smartphone. Each of the races will last roughly 30 minutes.
